Noticeable oak tannins with hi-tone acidity on the finish. Decent but not exceptional. Medium-weighted dark fruits with hints of raisin and oak. Rita Hills is not just Pinot Noir country, for its Chardonnays typically offer incredibly lush, chewy, hi-tone fruit backed by generous, defining acidity.
The nose is steely and edgy with added fruit flavors of frozen lemon, cut Honeycrisp apple and pineapple. High class aromas of flint, steel shavings, lemon and butter. This wine calls out for foie gras.
Well-integrated acidity with adroit oak management. The mouth feel is velvety, the oak is beautifully integrated, and there is very impressive length on the fruit-laden finish and a step up in pleasure from the Southing bottling. The purity of the fruit really grabs your attention as it unfolds in layers across the palate. Southing refers to the south-facing hillside bluffs on the estate vineyard.
Also, more liter demi-muids are being used. This is definitely a large scale, fruit-powered Pinot Noir that will appeal to lovers of a hedonistic style.
Whole cluster pressed before gently pumped into stainless steel tank and cold settled. There is only a slight imprint of oak, and the polished demeanor is sublime. Boldly styled, with delicious fruit expression, supportive tannins, and integrated acidity. The tannins are well-behaved making for easy drinking now.
Upon opening, oak-infused aromas and flavors combine with a fruit-charged core of dark cherry, blackberry, pomegranate and spice. Meant for earlier drinking and has run its course.
Honed to go the distance in the cellar. Four clones, primarily Wente clone with additional Dijon clones.
Discreetly concentrated flavors of plum, boysenberry and black cherry with a whisper of spice and vanilla, finishing with an intensely aromatic black cherry flourish. Aromas of brioche, lily bouquet and sandy beach lead to discreetly intense flavors of cherry, strawberry, blood orange, apricot and rose water. Very reserved nose offering demure aromas of black fruits, oak char and spice and violets. Aromas of black cherry, purple berry, underbrush and tar engage the nose.
